English as a Second Language
Welcome to my English as a Second Language page! I am excited to serve Southwood Elementary and Central Davidson Middle School for the 2025-2026 school year.
I am a graduate of Salem Academy in Winston Salem and attended the University of North Carolina at Greensboro for my undergraduate work in Elementary Education. After teaching for several years, I enrolled in the graduate program at Catawba College where I earned by Masters in Elementary Education along with K-12 North Carolina Reading licensure. I recently completed add-on licensure in School Leadership through Appalachian State University. I have K-12 English as a Second Language certification and I'm hoping to begin National Board Certification in the near future! I have taught kindergarten, first, and second grades, and have been a Title I Reading Specialist. This is my third year as an ESL teacher and I must say, it is by far, the most rewarding work I've ever done. I am equally as excited to begin my twenty-second year in education as I was when I started back in 2004!
When I am not teaching, I enjoy exercising, walking my dog, listening to music, and volunteering with my church. My husband and I have one son who will begin his freshman year at Central Davidson High School this fall. (Go Spartans!) We enjoy traveling to the mountains, paddle boarding, and playing with our dog, Pepper.
I look forward to another year as a Southwood Star. It's going to be a great year!
